We're number one! Again!

For the second consecutive week, Syracuse was voted unanimously as the number one team in the nation by the writers at On Campus Sports.

However, that’s where the similarities between the two polls end.

After a multitude of road upsets over the weekend, the rankings changed considerably. North Carolina drops five spots after a thrashing at Florida State. Louisville slides down to the edge of the rankings following an embarrassing showing at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence.

The Big Ten takes the biggest hit, as Michigan State and Indiana no longer find themselves in the top ten. Additionally, the Michigan Wolverines suffers the biggest fall of any team from last week, dropping nine spots from #13 to #22.

There are also some peculiar notables from week to week. Georgetown dropped a game at home to Cincinnati but moved up a spot in the rankings, while Harvard won both of its contests but drops down to #25. San Diego State beat a ranked UNLV team on Saturday, and Ohio State lost on the road to Illinois, but both remain stagnant in this week’s poll. Michigan lost one game on the road and has nine teams jump ahead of them, while Indiana was beat twice – once in convincing fashion and the other to a struggling Minnesota team at home – and falls only seven spots.

The Big East and Big Ten separated themselves from the rest with the additions of Marquette and Illinois to the rankings. The two conferences lead the way with five teams each. The SEC is in second with four teams, while the ACC and Big 12 both have three after Kansas State exits the power rankings.

Love this type article! I always appreciate a little insight as to why each school deserves its ranking, and it’s even better when it comes from ACTUAL college students!!

    The picture/caption is also hilarious.

About the Author

Originally from Rapid City, South Dakota, Mychal Anderson graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2011 with a double major in history and political science. The inordinate amount of scholarly essays and research that became necessary to complete such a degree sparked a natural editorial instinct and a passion for the written word. This fixation, combined with extensive knowledge and adoration of collegiate athletics, formed his desired career path as a sports writer/editor. He is an opinionated individual that is not afraid to engage in friendly banter, but who would ultimately proclaim his greatest writing strength to be in research-based articles rather than reflective columns. Alongside his position at On Campus Sports, Mychal currently works in academic advising at the University of Missouri in Columbia. Due to the fact that he does not get to watch his beloved Gophers and the Big Ten as much as he used to, he (secretly) has become an increasingly attentive follower of the Mizzou Tigers and their Big XII foes. He perhaps even wears black and gold on casual Fridays, but, seriously, don’t tell any of his buddies back in Dinkytown. As far as future plans, Mychal will hopefully (fingers crossed) be attending Missouri's School of Journalism in pursuit of a master’s degree, and he fully expects to continue to blossom as a writer/editor. He is excited about this opportunity with On Campus Sports and is looking forward to growing with the company. Twitter: @MychalAnderson
