Baylor’s back on track after two losses with a 77-65 road win against Oklahoma on Tuesday night at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, OK.
What does this mean for #7 Baylor? Perry Jones III has returned to being the player the Bears knew he was. With 21 points, this was Jones’ highest number in 11 games, and it was an incredible jump from only eight points against Missouri last Saturday.
Jones didn’t just step it up in points, he also tied his season record of 12 rebounds. Pierre Jackson tacked on 16 points and seven assists for the Bears, and Quincy Acy had 13 points.
For Oklahoma (12-7, 2-5 Big 12) the loss to the Bears at home is a new feeling. Baylor has been able to defeat the Sooners on their home court only two out of 18 times.
Steven Pledger led Oklahoma with 17 points and Romero Osby was close behind him with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
At around six minutes left in the second half, it could have been anyone’s game with Baylor (18-2, 5-2 Big 12) only holding a 62-56 lead. It was at this point the Bears realized they were going to have to tighten up on defense to seal the game.
Within a minute and a half, the Bears extended their lead to seven points, and a layup made by Perry Jones followed by two free throws by Quincy Acy put them ahead 71-62 with 1:51 left.
Unfortunately for the Sooners, Baylor held them to only three points in the last three minutes, and the Bears ended the game with four made free throws to end the scoring.
If Jones continues to be the player the Sooners faced tonight, and the Bears can keep their defense as tight as they had it at the end of tonight’s game, it looks like it could be a bright road to the championships for Baylor.
