Typical Texas Tech

If you’re a Red Raider fan, you’ve seen this movie before.
Tech seems to always find a way to win a huge game against an elite team one week, only to lose a game they should have easily won the next.
Sure enough, they stayed true to their roots, losing decisively to the Iowa State Cyclones 41-7 a week after stunning former national title contender Oklahoma.
Texas Tech should be diagnosed with bipolar disorder. How can one team score 41 points against a BCS bowl-bound team and then fail to even put up double digits against a team who has not made a bowl appearance since 2009?
The Cyclones made Texas Tech quarterback Seth Doege look mortal, allowing him a pedestrian 171 yards passing to go along with 2 interceptions.
Iowa State’s offense was ignited by freshman first-year starter Jared Barnett, who torched the Red Raiders on the road and accounted for 236 of Iowa State’s 512 total yards — not to mention the Cyclones pounded out 368 yards on the ground.
Texas Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville must use this stomping as a wake up call if he has any intention of turning around his school from its current mediocre status to the top-tier programs like Texas or Oklahoma. He has proven he can win the big game, but he also needs to show that he can win the easy games.
Yes, this is college football and upsets are a part of the game. But, please Texas Tech, show some consistency and build off last week’s success and at least play a decent game that isn’t over by halftime.
The Red Raiders will travel to Austin next week and face the #21 ranked Texas Longhorns, who are coming off of a resurgent shutout win over Kansas, 43-0, allowing only 46 total yards. Tech offensive coordinator Neal Brown must be up to the challenge.
If Tech has shown us anything, it’s that you never know what kind of team will show up on Saturday. It’s either the potent, signature Air Raid offense that can easily put up six on a dime, or the kind we saw this past week – dazed, confused and offensively challenged. Talk about an identity crisis.
So grab your $12 popcorn and 80-oz drink, and see what movie will be playing this week.
