BCS Update Week 12: Making sense of the movement

This years Allstate BCS National Championship features a rematch between LSU and Alabama, but did the voters get it right this year?

Another exciting weekend of college football. Another week of contemplating all of the teams who deserve to be in the Allstate BCS National Championship Game on January 9, 2012.

BCS Standings Week 12:

1. LSU

2. Oklahoma State

3. Alabama

4. Oregon

5. Oklahoma

6. Arkansas

7. Clemson

8. Virginia Tech

9. Stanford

10. Boise State

No. 10 Boise State and No. 9 Stanford pretty much killed their chances of hoisting the crystal football with losses to TCU and Oregon, respectively.

Although No. 1 LSU and No. 2 Oklahoma State are in the driver’s seat to make it to the BCS National Championship, No. 4 Oregon and No. 5 Oklahoma are on the rise.

No. 6 Arkansas has an outside shot to make it to the national title, but they will have to upset LSU to do so. If that were to happen, LSU would obviously not make it to the championship game. This would also most likely persuade the voters to keep No. 3 Alabama out as well because a rematch between Arkansas and the Crimson Tide would be unpopular.

However, if LSU does win this game and go on to make it to the BCS National Championship Game as predicted, it would be really hard for Oregon to make it to its second straight title game since LSU already beat them earlier in the season.

Alabama may have lost against LSU earlier this year as well, but that game was decided by only three points in overtime, meaning out of all of the rematch possibilities, this one would be deemed the most acceptable.

Although Oklahoma State controls their own destiny, they will have their toughest test of the season when they face off against Oklahoma on December 3rd. If Oklahoma State beats Oklahoma, they are in. Simple as that. However, if Oklahoma wins, it’s hard to say whether the Sooners could then jump up three spots in the BCS standings.

In my mind, the winner of this game deserves to play in the BCS National Championship, but the voters and computer rankings will decide Oklahoma’s fate should they win.

At this point in the season, No. 7 Clemson and No. 8 Virginia Tech need a miracle to make it to the championship. Both teams have had great seasons so far, but they are way too low in the polls to make that significant of a leap.

However, stranger things have happened, and really any of the above scenarios are possible. Nothing is set in stone, and there is still a lot of football to be played.

Here are are my predictions for each of the BCS bowl games:

Allstate BCS National Championship Game:

LSU vs. Oklahoma

Discover Orange Bowl:

Clemson vs. Cincinnati

Allstate Sugar Bowl:

Alabama vs. Houston

Rose Bowl:

Oregon vs. Wisconsin

Tostitos Fiesta Bowl:

Oklahoma State vs. Oregon
